Vivian Maier

A friend told me a bout Vivian Maier a while ago, and I have been meaning to blog about her. Vivian Maier was a nanny living in Chicago, who also was an avid street photographer. While she was never famous or celebrated for her work in her lifetime, her work was discovered in 2007 by John Maloof through a box of film and prints he purchased at an auction from a repossessed storage locker. Vivian Maier’s work is really amazing. I look at it, and am in complete awe. I always find myself to be too timid to photograph people when it is outside of a “photoshoot” and it is really amazing to see the work of someone so bold. Her images of people are at the same time gritty and honest. Really something to behold.
